Research activity

The scientific research activity in the Department is structured along several main research directions:

  • Design and optimization of technological processes. A traditional research field, with many valuable results. Design and manufacturing of high performance gears. Ecological aspects in manufacturing. PhD advisor in this field: Prof. Csaba GYENGE.
  • Rapid Prototyping. Recent research field, with a rapidly growing team and i nvolvment. The laboratory has extremely up-to date facilities and the first thesis are under development. PhD advisor: Prof. Petru BERCE.
  • Design and manufacturing of complex cutting tools. Traditional research field, with an important renewal due to the computational methods of analysis and optimization. PhD advisor: Prof. Gligor ABRUDAN.
  • Technology of the composite materials forming. Only recently studied in Romania, these materials are currently studied in our department, in joint projects with confirmed scientists from France. PhD advisor: Prof. Horatiu IANCAU.
  • Sheet metal mechanical behavior, characterisation and simulation. The experience of our people in this field is confirmed by the current involvment of two of them in European Brite-Euram research projects concerning sheet metal forming. Advisor: Prof. Dorel BANABIC

Of course, besides these directions concerning larger teams (most of the PhD candidates), other research themes are studied, most of them subject to contracts with industrial partners.
